When should you book your wedding photographer in Normandy?
Planning a wedding in Normandy means making important choices… and choosing your wedding photographer is often one of the most significant.

In the meantime, one question comes up very often: when should you book your wedding photographer in Normandy?
A simple answer: as early as possible.
In Normandy, most couples book their photographer between 12 and 18 months before their wedding.
The most popular dates, particularly from June to September, fill up very quickly, sometimes more than a year in advance.
If you already have your venue and wedding date, it is best not to wait.
1. Why book your photographer early?
Dates fill up quickly
Unlike some other suppliers, your wedding photographer can photograph only one wedding per day.
Once a date is booked, it is no longer available.
You have more choice
Booking early allows you to choose a photographer:
whose style truly suits you,
whose approach puts you at ease,
and whose work deeply moves you.
Waiting often means choosing from whoever is still available, rather than following a real connection with someone's work.
Finding the right photographer can take longer than you expect. Starting early gives you time to look calmly, without feeling pressured by availability.
Your wedding photographer is at the heart of your memories
The photographs are what will remain of your day.
They tell the story of:
the emotions,
the glances,
the details you may not have noticed,
and the entire atmosphere of your wedding.
It is a choice that deserves time and attention.
2. When exactly should you book?
Here are a few simple guidelines:
18 to 12 months before → ideal, with the widest choice
12 to 8 months before → still a very good time
less than 6 months before → possible, with more limited availability
If your wedding takes place in peak season, I recommend looking for your photographer as soon as you have booked your venue.
3. In what order should you book your suppliers?
Couples generally book their suppliers in this order:
the wedding venue,
the caterer,
the photographer,
the floral designer.
Some couples book their photographer immediately after the venue, before other suppliers. This often depends on how much the photographs matter to you and whether you feel a strong connection with a particular style.
4. Should you choose a photographer from your venue's recommended list?
Most wedding venues provide a list of recommended suppliers, often including wedding photographers.
These lists can help you discover trusted professionals, but it is important to know that they are never compulsory.
You are completely free to choose the photographer whose work speaks to you, even if they are not on the list.
In fact, many couples choose their photographer outside these lists, simply because they feel a real connection with a particular style, perspective or way of telling a story.
That choice often makes all the difference.

Not every photographer appears on venues' supplier lists, and this does not necessarily reflect their quality or experience.
These lists are often:
limited in size,
built through past collaborations,
and sometimes unchanged for a long time.
It is therefore perfectly normal, and quite common, to choose a wedding photographer outside these recommendations.
What matters most is finding someone whose work truly moves you and with whom you feel comfortable.
5. What if you are already running late?
All is not lost.
There may still be availability, particularly:
on weekdays,
outside peak season,
or on less popular dates.
The simplest approach is to message the photographer with your date and your wedding venue.
My advice
If you fall in love with a photographer's work, do not wait too long.Get in touch and talk to them about your wedding plans.
Choosing your photographer is too important to limit the conversation to a few messages.
An initial conversation often tells you immediately whether the connection is there.
A useful sign: if you can easily imagine yourself in their photographs, it is probably time to get in touch.
